Charro Beans with Veggie Ham


  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup Tomato sauce
  • 1 can of pinto beans (rinsed and drained)
  • ¼ cup bbq sauce
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 pack of Alternative Kitchen Organic Veggie Ham (Black Forest, cubed)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh cilantro (to decorate)

  1. At medium heat, sautée the onions, garlic and pepper in olive oil for 5 minutes
  2. Add the tomato sauce, pinto beans, bbq sauce and oregano. Simmer for 12 minutes
  3. Add the diced ham and simmer 3 more minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste
  4. Decorate with fresh cilantro

Serving Suggestion : Serve with potatoes (see loaded potatoes with charro beans) or corn bread.
